From a vision to practical pharmacogenetics

Abomics was founded on the belief that genetic information should help clinicians make better medication decisions. Since 2013, we've been dedicated to turning scientific evidence into practical tools that support everyday healthcare.

Where it all began


The idea for Abomics was born during a conversation between tennis partners Jari Forsström and Klaus Elenius. Both believed that genetics and genetic testing would become a cornerstone of personalized healthcare. At the same time, they recognized a critical gap: healthcare professionals lacked practical tools to use genetic information in everyday clinical decision-making.

In 2013, they founded Abomics to bridge that gap.

From the very beginning, our purpose has been to make evidence-based scientific information understandable, and practical for healthcare professionals. That same purpose continues to guide everything we do today.

First databases

Multirec introduced its drug interactions and drug-laboratory effects databases and began delivering to a leading EHR provider in Finland.

Abomics founded

Abomics Oy was established in Turku, Finland by medical doctors Jari Forsström and Klaus Elenius. The company had a vision to bring pharmacogenetics into everyday clinical decision-making. From the start, the company combined healthcare expertise with health IT know-how.

First sample handled

Abomics handled its first pharmacogenetic sample.

International expansion begins

Abomics initiated global expansion by partnering with a laboratory in Estonia.

First PGx database released

Abomics launched its pharmacogenetic database in collaboration with Duodecim Publishing Company Ltd, making gene-drug interaction data available to Finnish doctors.

2021

International growth

Abomics solutions adopted in multiple European countries.

Multirec joins Abomics group

Multirec Oy, Finland’s leading provider of medicinal product databases, became part of Abomics Group, strengthening EHR integration and clinical decision support capabilities.

2022

PGx interpretation platform expanded

Abomics enhanced its interpretation service, integrating with major EMR and LIMS systems and broadening medication coverage beyond 100 drugs.

ISO 13485:2016 certification achieved

Abomics obtained ISO 13485:2016 certification through Kiwa Inspecta, ensuring compliance with international quality and safety standards.

2025

PGx integration in Finnish health systems

Ostrobothnia Wellbeing Services County became the first to integrate Abomics’ pharmacogenetic data into patient record systems, marking a major step toward nationwide adoption.

ISO 13485:2016 certification renewed

Abomics successfully renewed its ISO 13485:2016 certification through SGS Fimko, reaffirming commitment to international quality and safety standards.
